frog in the nursery!

and...orange juice with juicy bits.
today heidi and i went biking in the afternoon. originally i just wanted to check out a nearby picnic/beach area but it didn't turn out to be very spectacular so we decided to hike around, then bike a different path back. this is from the hike:

apparently finnish "beaches" are all about a meter width of sand away from the water's edge and maybe two car lengths long. when heidi pointed out the beach i started laughing, and thereafter every time we hit a patch of sand we said "oh look, another beach!"

after this i didn't take any more pictures because we hopped back on our bikes and promptly got lost. instead of taking the route back home which was approximately 5-6 km, we went across a bridge onto an entirely different peninsula and got lost in some farmland/forest and not even the natives could tell us how to get back, and everyone we called had their phones turned off (or in maija's case was sleeping). so we backtracked. and then her bike broke down on the bridge so we had to stop and fix the chain. and then when we finally made it home i pulled out the map i should have brought with us in the first place (i do this a lot apparently :P) and turns out we biked so long we went off the map (more than 7km in the wrong direction) ... so all in all we did maybe 17-18km of biking plus a brief intermission of hiking maybe 1.5km in a couple of hours.
not bad, if i do say so myself. it was also terrifically beautiful the entire time (although i was stupidly wearing shorts and my hands were getting a bit cold as well, not that i could complain since i kept making fun of heidi for wearing gloves in summertime) so i wouldn't have missed it for the world. when i got back home i cooked a delicious stir fry - the first time in my life since fake stir fry in 7th grade home ec!! - and conversed with maija about politics, economy, language and feminism.
what a great day.

Getting horribly lost without a map seems to happen rather frequently around you. :P
Glad you had a good time! I myself and stewing and stressing during my off days bc I still can't think of what to write for my essay. I can't go out, either, bc I hear it's going to thunder later today... and it was thundering in the morning. Ugh. I was actually planning on going to the park and writing in a notebook since doing it indoors doesn't seem to be helping.
HEY when we went to lamont i had a map! it just didn't show the paths we were walking on because it was from like the 70s... (gee thanks callahan)
and go to an art gallery or something. funky creative stuff always gets my imagination flowing.
I don't need inspiration... I need truth! Whatever the answer is, it's already in me. I just have to find it. I think I need to get away from all this new environment and maybe go back to where I first came up with the idea to go to medical school.
If you know any good galleries, I'm all ears. Oh, and it would be nice if you knew someone I could go with. Ordinarily I'd ask Karrie to go with me, but she's visiting Texas right now (wtf mate... what's with TX?)
lol...you want to go with yves? i don't know the same people you know.
dude karrie's food photos on facebook are making me miserable, i had to make myself a mushroom salsa omelette this morning to stop thinking about food.
My food sucks right now. I'm so tired of it... and I even tried making something new today! Maybe I should try eggs (gasp! cholesterol!)... they seem to go with a lot of things.
I haven't been checking on facebook lately since I'm avoiding having to sift through my 3472837593 trip pics and uploading them. Arg. I need to stop procrastinating.
what have you been making? i need suggestions for new combinations for ...tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, onions, potatoes, garlic and bits of meat/eggs/fish.
i think tonight i'll make some fried rice but don't you have to have precooked rice to make fried rice? so i'd have to cook rice, and then fry it?
:( i pulled the backspace key off my keyboard and now i can't get it back on.
Yeah you have to precook the rice. Do you have rice? You can cook it in a small pot if you like... I think the ratio is generally 1 rice: 1.5 water... just cover the pot and put it over medium heat or something. You can probably look it up online.
PS what the heck were you pulling off the backspace key for in the first place?!
I redid that hard bean curd with pork and shrooms... but nothing I haven't made before. There's pasta, veges and noodle soup as well. The new thing I tried was some chicken breast (gasp!) tenders with some marinate, but those were so bland. I think I should have added onions and garlic or sumin...
yeah i always add garlic in my marinade for some extra flavor. you can also try a miso marinade - this is really delicious on salmon. just rub the salmon with miso paste and leave 6h-or overnight, if you want you can remove the paste, then pan fry. i dream of this salmon all the time, especially since they have such good salmon here, but i can't find any miso paste :(
